On Saturday, 7 September, SWTA teamed with the US Embassy, the Embassy Youth Council, Studiorum and MakeDox completed three volunteer events in honor of September 11 Day of Service and Remembrance, an initiative by President Obama. The events were conducted in three cities Bervo, Strumica and Kavadarci, under the theme “You are not Alone” (YANA).
In Berovo, during the first half of the day our volunteers, together with the kids from the local orphanage, beautified the garden, install a wooden fence and painted it. Later on the group had a small walk around the wonderful town of Berovo. In the afternoon the group had the opportunity to play a small basketball and volleyball tournaments. The day was finished with placing a 1000 pieces puzzle.
In Kavadarci, the kids had the opportunity, together with our volunteers, to beautify their rooms. After the visit of the local park, where few sport and board games were played, the group had a wonderful joined lunch. In the afternoon, in collaboration with the festival of creative documentary “MakeDox”, the kids watched thematic
documentary film followed by a short moderated discussion.
From 12 to 14h on the main square in Strumica, in collaboration with the Youth Council of Strumica and “Novus”, 15 children with disabilities were engaged in art projects on the topic “In my world”. During the event, the citizens of Strumica donated money for technical tools and equipment for the local NGO “Poraka”. The main purpose of this activity was raising awareness in the community about the importance of inclusion and working together in order to provide equal opportunities for everyone.
