Travel

ND travelThe stay in the US is not just about working. One of the best parts of the Work & Travel Program is the fact that it gives the participants an opportunity for unique traveling experience. Following the completion of the program, the period defined on the Form DS-2019, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) allows participants a 30-day travel period commonly referred to as the “Grace Period”. During this 30-day grace period, participants are no longer in J-visa status, and are under the jurisdiction of the USCIS. Program participants may no longer continue and/or complete exchange activities, nor may they work. Although they may travel in the United States, and it is highly recommended that they do not travel beyond the borders of the United States as they may not be permitted reentry.

Keep in mind that the traveling period doesn’t always come at the end of the stay in the US. Very often students travel during their agreed working period. However, a student could only do so when he/she has approved time off from work during his/her DS-2019 dates. Students should make sure and talk to their managers about the possibility of taking time off from work for traveling. A Participant should always ask for days off at least a week in advance.

With the J-1 Visa and the earned money students could book flights and find hotels to their most desirable destinations in USA. It’s difficult to find another country in the world which can delight you in so many ways. USA has it all, from the massive New York City’s skyscrapers, to the brightest city in the world, Las Vegas. People who are interested in traveling can’t miss the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Manhattan, New York City The Statue of Liberty and Empire State Building in NYC, the White House in Washington DC. USA also has areas of natural beauty too. The Grand Canyon in Arizona, the most beautiful beaches of Florida, the Redwood Forest of California, one of the greatest national parks in the world Yellowstone, are some of the destinations that can take your breath away.Keep in mind that the traveling period doesn’t always come at the end of the stay in the US.
